"Equity, Out Loud: Collective Leadership for Just Campuses"

This year’s theme, Equity, Out Loud: Collective Leadership for Just Campuses, invites higher education and student affairs (HESA) professionals, scholars, and graduate students to come together in community to explore how our collective voices, stories, and actions shape more equitable and inclusive campuses. This year’s conference calls us to move beyond dialogue toward shared leadership and transformative practice, speaking equity into existence through collaboration, courage, and care.

Located in the heart of California, the Central Valley is a region where communities are deeply rooted and where generations have cultivated resilience, cultural wealth, and collective strength. Against this backdrop, we gather to amplify equity-centered leadership that listens, uplifts, and acts in solidarity. The conference will serve as a space for both emerging and experienced educational leaders to engage in meaningful learning, connection, and action toward just and thriving campuses.

This conference will serve as a platform for both emerging and experienced educational leaders to engage in shared learning, collaboration, and the pursuit of meaningful change. By connecting local networks and advancing collective action, the conference continues the HEAL program’s mission to develop critical scholar-practitioners committed to socially just praxis, preparing them with the theoretical knowledge and competencies needed to lead in higher education. HESACV is also a space to enact our vision to mobilize collective knowledge as scholar-practitioners
to transform higher education in the Central Valley and beyond.

We welcome all to participate and do the work.

Jessie Hernández-Reyes

Keynote Speaker

Jessie Hernández-Reyes (she/her/ella) is the Director of Policy & Advocacy at the Campaign for College Opportunity. Jessie was born and raised in San Diego, California, by two loving parents originally from Mexico City and Tlaxcala, México. From an early age, her parents supported her love of learning and instilled the idea of obtaining a postsecondary education. Jessie’s undergraduate education allowed her to critically examine her journey to higher education as a first-generation college student and envision a future where all historically minoritized students can access and succeed in higher education. Before joining the Campaign for College Opportunity, Jessie served as a Legislative Analyst for the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. Prior to her time at the Chancellor’s Office, Jessie was a senior policy analyst for The Education Trust, advocating for federal and state policies to advance college access and success for students of color, students from low-income backgrounds, and undocumented students. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Chicanx Studies with an Education Studies minor from the University of California, Los Angeles. She is also a proud alumnus of the Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Fellowship Program.
